Method 1: transcribe the Drive recording
For Workspace accounts where the organiser recorded the meeting.
- Open Google Drive, folder Meet Recordings, and download the MP4.
- Drop it into Scrieb. Audio is extracted and transcribed locally with speaker identification.
- Export DOCX or PDF; the file goes wherever your notes live, not into Docs unless you put it there.

- Can I record Google Meet on a free account?
- Not with Meet's own recording feature; that needs an eligible Google Workspace plan. On a free account, record the call on your computer with Scrieb via system audio, then transcribe it locally.
- Where do Google Meet recordings go?
- To the organiser's Google Drive, in a Meet Recordings folder, as an MP4. Download it and drop it into Scrieb.
- Does Google Meet transcribe meetings itself?
- On eligible Workspace plans, yes, and Gemini can take notes. Both run in Google's cloud and store the results in Drive and Docs. Scrieb runs on your computer and stores the transcript on your disk.
- Does Meet notify participants when Scrieb records?
- No. Scrieb records on your computer and Meet is unaware of it, so tell participants yourself. Meet's own recording feature shows a notice; a local recording does not.
- Will speakers be labelled?
- Yes, by voice, locally. Meet's cloud transcript labels by account name; Scrieb's labels come from speaker identification on the audio.
- Which file should I use, the MP4 or something smaller?
- The MP4 from Drive is fine; Scrieb extracts the audio. If you recorded with Scrieb, there is nothing to convert.
