A study, from first call to synthesis
- Create a folder for the study (“Onboarding interviews, Q4”). New recordings and imports go into the folder you are viewing.
- Record each session. Remote: “Record from App” during the Zoom, Teams or Meet call. In person: record the microphone, or import a file from your phone or recorder.
- Check the transcript. Rename the speakers once (“Moderator”, “P3”) and every line follows. Remove names or details in the Document tab; summaries are written from your edited text.
- Read the Interview summary for each session: answers by topic and key quotes with who said them.
- Ask across the study. Set the chat to “This folder” and ask what participants said about a feature, a workflow or a pain point. Then go to the transcripts it names and pull the quotes.
What it is good for
Discovery interviews
Customer problems in their own words, with quotes ready for the readout.
Usability sessions
What participants said while they worked through the task, with each speaker labelled.
Customer and sales calls
Record calls on your computer without a note-taker bot that changes how customers talk.
Comparing participants
One folder per study, chat across it, and search inside every transcript and summary.
Why local matters for research
Participants sign a consent form that says how their recording is handled. A cloud note-taker or transcription service adds a vendor that holds every session, often in another country, and a bot in the call that participants notice. Recording and transcribing on your own computer keeps the data where your protocol says it is, and keeps the conversation natural.

What reaches our servers: account data only (email, a device ID, a usage counter), never recordings or text. Details: Data protection & security.

Questions from researchers
- How do I transcribe user interviews without uploading them?
- Record the interview on your computer or import the recording into Scrieb. Transcription, speaker identification and the summary run on your own Mac or Windows PC, so neither the audio nor the transcript is sent to a transcription service or AI provider.
- Can I record remote interviews without a bot joining?
- Yes. Start the call in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or another app and click “Record from App”. Scrieb records the call audio and your microphone on your computer; nothing joins the call. Ask the participant for consent to record, as your research protocol requires.
- Can it compare all the interviews in a study?
- Yes. Put a study’s interviews in one folder and set the chat to “This folder”. Questions like “what did participants say about onboarding?” are answered from those interviews only, and the answer names the recordings it used. A small folder is read whole, so comparisons see every interview.
- What does the interview summary contain?
- An overview, the questions and answers grouped by topic, key quotes word for word with who said them, and open points. You can also write your own summary instructions, for example your discussion guide’s sections or a pains / gains / quotes structure.
- Is the AI synthesis a replacement for analysis?
- No. It is a fast first pass: it finds passages and quotes so you can check them in the transcript. Themes and insights still come from your own reading across participants.
- How do I get transcripts into our research repository?
- Export to Markdown, Word, PDF or plain text and add them to the tool your team uses. Speaker names are kept in the export.
- Is it free?
- The free plan includes 1 hour of recording a day, enough for a typical interview, with speaker labels, summaries and all export formats. Pro removes the limit and covers Mac and Windows with one licence.
